On February 27th, a pioneer of Rap and Hip-Hop, FATHER AMDE HAMILTON, one of the original WATTS PROPHETS, will release a new solo CD, produced by CRAIG WEBB
“DIFFICULTEZ TECHNICAL.”

The album is a soulful, heartfelt concoction of poetry, jazz, rhythm and philosophy; with members of GIL SCOTT-HERON'S BAND “Amnesia Express,” and a track featuring the late great trumpet player, DON CHERRY. Acclaimed producers DAE ONE & BRIAN G add their magic to the gravity of this timeless album. Artist extraordinaire Michael Massenburg created the cover-art of the album with his interpretation of its climate, to create a masterful reflection of the “Energy Project” (an organic group of producers, musicians and artists that Father Amde brought together for his latest work of art).
Father Amde aka Amdepoet, has performed around the world with the Watts Prophets for over 48years, receiving countless awards and accreditation for his life’s work of activism, community and speaking for the less fortunate.
THE WATTS PROPHETS were a group of poets who formed on the heels of the 1965 Watts Rebellion and became known for fusing experimental jazz and funk roots music with rapid fire spoken word recitation that helped spawn the cultural traditions of rap and hip–hop. The Watts Prophets worked with many musicians, including STEVIE WONDER, QUINCY JONES, NINA SIMONE, BOB MARLEY, HORACE TAPSCOTT, and DEE DEE MCNEIL. In this same tradition, the Watts Prophets are nowadays “sampled” by artists such as Ice Cube Digable Planets, D. J. Shadow, Wax Poetics, Eazy E, Public Enemy, D. J. Quik, and others.

Although FATHER AMDE sees the Watts Prophets as a “living bridge” to the past, he says his new album remains devoted to people who struggle today for things as basic as their right to vote, and presents a poetic view of TECHNOLOGY now infusing our culture: “folks on Facebook who face nobody!”
