Those saying OSP has failed and should be scrapped has Parliament not failed us? Have we scrapped it

President John Mahama must be cautious. Scrapping the OSP will be recorded permanently in our political history. Whether calls are coming from well-meaning voices or from those who simply want to bury their own skeletons, the trap is the same. If you abolish the OSP, you will be remembered as the President who dismantled the one institution that had the potential to insulate corruption prosecution from political interference. And once that impression forms, no explanation—no matter how logical—will erase it.
Instead, reform it. Strip it of its excesses. Narrow its mandate. Appoint a Special Prosecutor with unimpeachable credibility and no partisan baggage. Build forensic capacity. Set clear timelines for investigations. Make asset recovery—not public press conferences—the heart of its work. Let Parliament provide strict oversight, not legislative execution.
Because the truth is this: corruption has no ideology. It has no party color. It has no tribe. And every time we weaken an institution meant to fight corruption, we widen the gap between the governed and the government; we deepen public cynicism; we make the poor even poorer; we embolden thieves.
And to those citizens who say “the OSP has failed, so let’s scrap it,” I ask: Has Parliament not failed us many times? Have we scrapped it? Has the police not failed the public countless times? Do we scrap the police? Have we not complained that the justice system delays cases for years? Do we scrap the courts?#joyprime
