The Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. (KCCDC) proudly announces the fourth edition of Korean Art in the U.S., presenting an expert-led video tour of the Arts of Korea at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA). This gallery features work drawn from the Museum’s collection of about 1,200 Korean objects, exploring a broad spectrum of magnificent works ranging from a Bronze Age dagger to contemporary ceramics and prints, highlighting the creative dialogue between artists and Korea’s unique traditions.
Guided by Christina Yu Yu, Matsutaro Shoriki Chair, Art of Asia, at the MFA, this new video tour offers an ideal introduction to the splendors and subtleties of Korean art. The Arts of Korea gallery opened in November 2012 and showcases the collection’s strengths in decorative arts, 11th to 13th-century celadon ceramics from the Hoyt collection, and spectacular pieces of lacquer and metalwork.
During a time of limited travel and in-person programs, Korean Art in the U.S. offers a new level of access to the richness and diversity of Korean traditional and contemporary art in American museums, through guided virtual tours of major exhibitions and rarely seen collections not currently on display. New virtual tours are produced and released periodically throughout the year.
The video tour of the Arts of Korea at the MFA will be available for free public viewing on June 4, 2021 at 6 p.m. on the KCCDC website (washingtondc.korean-culture.org) and social media channels (@Koreaculturedc) as well as the MFA website (mfa.org) and social media channels (@mfaboston).
About the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Founded on February 4, 1870, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), stands on the historic homelands of the Massachusett people, a site which has long served as a place of meeting and exchange among different nations. The Museum opened its doors to the public on July 4, 1876—the nation’s centennial—at its original location in Copley Square. Over the next several decades, the MFA’s collection and visitation grew exponentially, and in 1909, the Museum moved to its current home on Huntington Avenue. Today, the MFA houses a global collection encompassing nearly 500,000 works of art, from ancient to contemporary.
The Museum is located at 465 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115. For more information, call 617.267.9300, visit mfa.org or follow the MFA on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
