Solving Two-Step Equations (Division and Subtraction) | Introduction to Algebra
In this lesson, we learn how to solve two-step equations involving division and subtraction. These equations require us to undo two operations in the correct order using inverse operations.
To solve this type of equation, we work in reverse order. We first undo the division by multiplying both sides of the equation. Then, we undo the subtraction by adding.
For example, in the equation(x−3)÷2=5, we first multiply both sides by 2 to remove the division. This gives x−3=10.
Next, we add 3 to both sides to find x=13.
