THE INDONESIAN MILITARY PROBLEM (RUU TNI)

The Indonesian parliament has pushed for a law that revised the role of the Indonesian armed forces outside of defense (RUU TNI), expanding on a list of government roles that active military duty personnels are about to take. In light of this law, many in Indonesia fear the return of the military dual function, a Soeharto-era policy enabling military personnel to take active sociopolitical roles in society and politics, driving Indonesia back to a state of stratocracy (military government). Let’s take a look at this entire dumpster fire.
