Dad was preening beside the birdbath while I was attending to the chooks. He came for a drink. Is he doing yoga at 0:45? Check out his left foot (his injured side) when he scratches with his right leg at 2:25 – he would definitely wrap that rear toe (aka his hallux) around the grandstand for this manoeuvre if he could. The front seemed to take the strain so he could keep balanced. 3:37 the bales start.
I catch a little grasshopper and Dad gets it before they both get a bale. Mum looks a little frazzled. Mum leaves bale 1 early and I go hunting insects for her – finding nothing so it's go for bale 2. Mum bails on bale 2 while Dad continues grazing for a little. He's not interested in a third bale.
They weren't in a real rush to get under the bales. That's a bit of a theme the last few days. I keep expecting them to take a day or two off. There's some rain predicted in the next couple of days and possible thunderstorms – the magpies might take those days off and I might too. I don't mind working in the rain if it's really hot but I'm not mucking about in thunderstorms...
For the continuity nerds I was wearing my shirt from the previous afternoon in the morning and changed after a shower before the afternoon filming. I do this fairly often, mostly when I'm not planning on doing anything particularly dirty in the afternoon. Like getting a load of topsoil. In between bale turnovers I was setting up the new hose arrangements for the extension. All filming took place on the same day.
Cheers folks!
