I was back at Field Mill for this League One clash between Mansfield Town and Stockport County, and before kick-off I caught up with a few confident Stags fans — although one pessimistic supporter felt it might not be our day…

Mansfield started brightly and looked the better side in the opening stages. That pressure paid off when a corner was met by Ryan Sweeney, whose header found the net to give the Stags a deserved 1–0 lead.

The atmosphere inside Block Q went up another level, although the noise had been strong around the ground all evening.

Disappointment followed before the break when a Stockport player broke free down the right and fired a low cross into the box. The ball struck Ryan Sweeney and ended up in the net, sending the sides in level at 1–1 at half-time.

The second half was more difficult for Mansfield. On 69 minutes, Stockport took the lead with a well-placed header. Mansfield pushed for an equaliser and felt hard done by when a clear penalty appeal was waved away on 80 minutes, but despite the effort, the Stags couldn’t really test the Stockport goalkeeper late on.
