It later found a home on the Satellite Pay Television DirecTV-Exclusive The 101 Network from September 17, 2007, to August 7, 2008. Created by esteemed screenwriter James E. Reilly and produced by NBC Studios, Passions delves into the intricate lives, loves, and extraordinary romantic and supernatural escapades of the residents of Harmony. The series revolves around the interactions between members of its diverse core families, including the Russells, Cranes, Bennetts, and Lopez-Fitzgeralds, representing different racial backgrounds. Notably, Passions incorporates elements of the supernatural, primarily centered around the town witch Tabitha Lenox (played by Juliet Mills) and her animated companion Timmy (played by Josh Ryan Evans).

In January 2007, NBC canceled Passions, leading to its subsequent revival on the direct-broadcast satellite paid subscription television service DirecTV. The final episode aired on NBC on September 7, 2007, with new episodes continuing exclusively on DirecTV's 101 Network starting on September 17. However, in December 2007, just months after the revival, DirecTV chose not to renew its contract for Passions. Despite efforts to find a new home for the series, the studio could not secure a deal, resulting in the final episode being broadcast in August 2008. Notably, as of 2018, Passions stands as the most recent daytime television soap opera created explicitly for American network television.
