In this video, I showcase a Ball & Beam balancing robot controlled using a PID (Proportional–Integral–Derivative) controller. This is a classic control systems problem that demonstrates how feedback control can stabilize an inherently unstable system.
I built this project over break as a way to apply control theory beyond the classroom and better understand real-world system dynamics, PID tuning, and feedback response. The robot continuously adjusts the beam angle to keep the ball balanced at a desired position, highlighting how small control inputs can have a big impact on system stability.
If you’re an engineering student, robotics enthusiast, or interested in control systems, this project is a great hands-on example of PID control in action.
