In 2021, Clackamas County resident Brandon Wintringham lost his life to a fentanyl overdose. Brandon's parents recently sat down with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office to tell Brandon's story in a powerful new video they hope will raise awareness about the impact fentanyl is having on our community.
In just the first two months of 2022, the number of counterfeit pills containing fentanyl seized by our Clackamas County Interagency Task Force (CCITF) increased 195% over the entire year of 2021 -- and 367% over the entire year of 2020.
These counterfeit pills are made to resemble something you'd pick up from a pharmacy, such as Oxycodone. A user might not know the pill they took was actually laced with fentanyl until it's too late.
Brandon was one of 34 fatal-overdose victims in Clackamas County in 2021 where fentanyl was found in the toxicity report. According to the Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office and Public Health Division, more 2021 toxicity reports are still pending, meaning this number may rise.
We want to thank Brandon's parents for bravely sharing their story.
