I've suddenly developed an intermittent EML (Engine Management) Light on the Smart ForTwo 451 'Night Orange'. We scan the car with our OBD scanner in this video and discover it's code P0012 to be exact.

According to Smart: OBD-II Code P0012 is defined as "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded - not good! It could be a faulty variable valve timing solenoid OR dirt in a filter (thanks to the team at Smart who have provided us with the diagnostic trail!)

First port of call is to clean the VVT solenoid and filter ... and then give the car an engine flush and oil and filter change.

For about £15 - its a good place to start before replacing solenoids!
