This video covers how to put a preliminary bevel on your zinc etching plate. As mentioned, different printers put the bevel on at different times. If you forget to do this first that is o.k., but it must be done before any proofing of your plate takes place. The benefit to putting a preliminary bevel on your plate before etching is that you still have the protective film on the plate. If you stop out with stop out fluid or sharpie marker even prior to your etching, the bevel will not get etched and sill provide the protection to the paper and our felts that is needed during the proofing period. A final bevel is necessary before editioning of the plate, in which you will burnish and sand the beveled edge.
