Cycling to the roof of Africa - Bicycle touring Ethiopia | Cycling around the planet #17

Ethiopia, one of the most notoriously difficult countries to cycle through. If not for its stone-throwing children, then for its steep mountain roads. But although cycling through Ethiopia has proven to be a real challenge, it has been one of the most rewarding countries to explore by bicycle.

Due to ongoing conflicts around the border between Sudan and Ethiopia, I was forced to take a flight from Khartoum to Addis Abeba. After getting our administration done in the capital, we started cycling south. Our first night camping in Ethiopia turned out into a nightmare, and we would have to change our attitude of wildcamping in Ethiopia. We swam in the beautiful Langano and Ziway lakes. After Shashemene, we split up, and I went to cycle into the Bale mountains. With rainbows, flooded roads, wild animals and climbs going up to 4300 meters, it turned out to be an epic adventure.
