UNESCO rolled out two projects in Somalia.
The first project is a capacity development for teachers in three regions of Somalia, to help improve access and equity education to Somali children. Below 50 % of children do not have access to education. The role of Teachers is really important to shape the next generation .
The teacher training project aimed to improve quality through enhanced pedagogy and accelerate access to basic education at primary level. The training focused on child-centered methodology, gender-responsive teaching multi-grade teaching and conflict sensitivity.
The second project is the Literacy and Skills for Life, funded by Al Maktoum Foundation to improve the education and livelihood conditions to diverse groups in Somalia. This has been done by making available opportunities for out-of-school youth and adults who have never been to school. Started in 2013, the project benefited 1,000 youth and women. UNESCO's local partner Candle Light helped implement the project.
