Sinhagad Fort | कोंढाणा किल्ला पुणे | तानाजी मालुसरे के वीरता ka प्रतीक
Sinhagad Fort is an ancient hill fortress located about 28 km southwest of Pune, Maharashtra. Once known as Kondhana, this fort has witnessed several historic battles — the most famous being the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670, where the brave Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare fought with unmatched courage for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Today, Sinhagad Fort is one of the most popular weekend destinations for Pune residents as well as tourists. The fort offers a perfect blend of history, adventure, and breathtaking natural views.
A motorable road leads directly to the top, making it convenient for families and casual visitors. For adventure lovers, trekking to Sinhagad is an absolute delight. The trek starts from the base of the fort (Sinhgad Paytha) and is approximately 2.7 km (1.6 miles) one way, with an elevation gain of about 600 meters (1950 feet). It usually takes 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on fitness level.
Shared taxi services, local jeeps, and even private vehicles are available to reach both the base and the summit.
Once at the top, visitors can explore major attractions like:
Tanaji Malusare Memorial
Kondhaneshwar Temple
Pune Darwaza & Kalyan Darwaza
The ancient fort walls and bastions
Stunning panoramic views of Khadakwasla Dam & Sahyadri mountains
Sinhagad is also famous for its simple yet delicious local food — pithla-bhakri, kanda bhaji, taak, and lemon juice, served at small stalls on the fort.
Whether you are a history lover, a nature enthusiast, a trekker, or someone looking for peaceful views, Sinhagad Fort offers an unforgettable experience.
