Estimate is 00:45:00. Definitely a more endurance type style of a fast-pace speedrun, especially with soft-resetting back to the title screen at the end of each course. Every split, even when refighting Rulue, felt decently fast and a good representation of Puyo fundamentals.
As for the real description:
Puyo Pop released in 2001 for the Game Boy Advance as Sonic Team's first Puyo Puyo game in the franchise since absorbing Compile. Funnily enough, this is also one of Sega's first games on a Nintendo console since becoming third party in that same year. The gameplay uses the Puyo Puyo Tsuu ruleset, where you can offset and/or counterattack damage given to you. Similar to Puyo Puyo~n, some fights in the run have you start with Garbage Puyo already on the field, whether it be Point Puyo (Sun rule), Hard Puyo (yon rule), some regular Nuisance Puyo, or just a plain field. For the speedrun, you want to focus on building a chain by setting up trigger points to match the color with the succeeding chain. We can do this by stacking in a 2x2, or a 3x3 fashion called Stair-Stacking. The garbage Puyo on the boards can make it difficult to Stair Stack, but you'll see as I find an opportunity to set up a stack or even Stairwich (Stair-stacking + Sandwich). When the Puyo drop speed becomes faster, so will the AI; they are not afraid to play aggressive. Thankfully, they "accidentally" build chains above 3, so it's almost simple to build a power 3, 4, or even a strong power 2. The RNG isn't as egregious, except for having 5-color Puyo, but that's normal. Overall, this is a Puyo game that not many people know exist, let alone being a super fun speedrun!
