KOI POND Bio Filter Build - The Silent Workhorse

In this video, I’m upgrading my Koi pond’s bio filter chamber to improve the biological filtration system. The chamber itself was custom built by Gaz from Colbie Koi, and I’ll be discussing the types of filtration media that will be used to enhance the bio filtration process.

I’ll cover the Mountain Tree Lotus Root Gen 3 ceramic media for the static anaerobic side of the bio filter, and the Evolution Aqua K+ media for the fluidized aerobic side. Learn about the importance of selecting the right bio media for each filtration bay to support healthy bacterial growth and improve water quality in your koi pond.

While I’m not setting up the media in this video, I’ll show you the custom-built chamber’s design, including the dividers that create separate anaerobic and aerobic zones. I’ll also explain how I’m ensuring proper water flow through the chamber and how I’ll be using 3D-printed holders to install 300mm Oase air diffusers to agitate the Evolution Aqua K+ media on the fluidized side.
