I just learned that BYU will be allowing same-sex couples to dance together for a ballroom dance competition this March! I am really happy about the inclusivity, and it is great timing that just a few days ago I publicly debuted an original song about a very similar theme! Pay close attention to the lyrics of the chorus and remember the gender of who traditionally leads...
Performed at the Covey Center Songwriting Showcase January 17, 2020.
Lyrics:
Surrounded by a million globe string lights,
You asked me to come ‘cause your best friend fell in love.
What a beautiful ceremony of light and bliss,
If you wanted we could have one like this.
If you lead I would follow, put my left hand on your shoulder,
Move your feet with the rhythm, stand up straight as you pull me closer.
I would let you in, if you're ready to begin.
If you lead I would follow, I would follow you, I would follow you...
Right down the aisle, an ocean of bright smiles
Two families become one in unity
What a beautiful ceremony anticipating a kiss,
If you wanted we could have one just like this.
If you lead I would follow, put my left hand on your shoulder,
Move your feet with the rhythm, stand up straight as you pull me closer.
I would let you in, if you're ready to begin.
If you lead I would follow, I would follow you, I would follow…
Under the stars, dancing in your arms
Anywhere we go, that’s where I’ll be home.
If you lead I would follow, put my left hand on your shoulder,
Move your feet with the rhythm, stand up straight as you pull me closer.
I would let you in, if you're ready to begin.
If you lead I would follow, I would follow you…
If you lead I would follow, I would follow you...
If you lead I would follow, I would follow you,
I would follow you.
