This is part 2 from the 8 part series A Symposium on Being Jewish. I was 21 years old and in search of the truth. I realized with a video camera I could gain access to some of the most profound Jewish thinkers of the late 20th century and ask them basic questions about truth or God. Many years later alot of my guides have now passed and in this video their incredible spirits live on. A few years after making this video Rabbi Marshall Meyer (z"l), the founder of Congregation Bnai Jeshurun in New York City, passed away. He helped me understand the different between subjective and objective truth. What does it mean to search for what is real and true ? I still remember his son Gabi at his funeral banging away on a drum. Rabbi Meyer had a way of expressing things which resonated with me. I brought the show's host, Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi (z"l) to Toronto to host the show. Other people in it include Rabbi Noah Weinberg (z"l), the founder of Aish HaTorah, Rabbi Louis Jacobs (z'L), Rabbi Emmaual Rackman, (z"l), Alan Dershowitz, Rabbi Berel Wein, Professor Eliezar Schweid, Rabbi Yitz Greenberg, Rabbi Harold Kushner, Rabbi Shmuel Buttman, Nobel Prize physicist Dr. Arno Penzias, Letty Cottin Pogrebin, Francine Klagsbrun, Rabbi David Weiss Halivni, and A.B. Yehoshua. The film was originally broadcast in Canada on TVOntario and Vision TV. It played on a cable channel in the United States, the Faith and Values channels, and on WLIW in Long Island. After each broadcast I had the rights to put up an 800 number and sell copies of the program. I remember my father seeing the 800 number bill and how proud he was to notice calls came in from over 50 states. Jonathan Perlman
