"Male Gaze Theory" Has Gone Too Far (+ The Internalized Feminist Gaze)

Feminist discourse around the "internalized male gaze" keeps trending every year or so, with more and more paranoia attached. In this video, I discuss how the male gaze theory evolved from a film criticism by Laura Mulvey to an all-encompassing fear held by many modern feminists and young women who believe this gaze has been internalized and that you can never be free of "oppressive" male oriented beauty standards. I also talk about my experience with what I call the "internalized feminist gaze", which is the idea that a good feminist rejects all beauty standards in order to not serve the male gaze and to hold women back from patriarchal standards. I also discuss the nature of adhering to a male or female gaze as a part of our biology, and femininity and feminine essence in art. I then discuss how the ideas of internalized misogyny, being not like the other girls, being a pick me girl and the male gaze play into attempts by leftists and feminists to silence anyone they don't agree with.
