Lost in Bogotá — And What It Taught Me

What if getting lost didn’t lead to fear — but to clarity?
I came to Bogotá alone. Not for adventure, not for nightlife, not to “check off the sights.”
I came because I had stopped paying attention to my own life — and I needed to face that.
Walking through La Candelaria, I expected history, color, street vendors, and music.
What I didn’t expect was that the most meaningful moment would come from a broken sidewalk, a pothole full of trash, and a sudden realization that hit me harder than any landmark ever could.
This isn’t a tourist guide.
It’s not a highlight reel.
It’s a moment of presence in one of the most intense cities in South America.
As I wandered through markets, alleys, and conversations in broken Spanish, I began to understand something:
Mindful travel isn’t about escape. It’s about meeting yourself where you are — unfiltered, uncomfortable, and honest.
If you’re planning to visit Bogotá:
• Learn a few basic Spanish phrases — it opens hearts.
• Respect street vendors — their business is their life.
• Be aware, not afraid — the city rewards attention.
Mindful Visitor isn’t about perfection.
It’s about showing up.
Wherever you go — even if you’re lost — especially if you’re lost.
If you’ve ever traveled alone and felt both alive and exposed, I hope this resonates.
