I headed trackside ten years ago OTD to catch the Wisconsin and Southern's local freight train L863 that works back to Madison on the Reedsburg Sub, based on rumors that the consist may include a flat car carrying Woodward Iron No. 41, a 1928 Baldwin 2-10-0 steam locomotive. This had recently been sold from the collection of the Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom and was due to be shipped out to its new home, the Age of Steam Roundhouse in Ohio.
Unfortunately, the train did not include the special load on this day (it ended up moving a few days later, video is on the @MCRHS channel). I got two runbys, one north (RR west) of Dane, and one at State Highway 113 (Century Ave.) in Waunakee. SD40-2 WSOR 4054 leads SD40M-2 4078.
I heard another train on the scanner, T007 getting its warrants on the Prairie Sub, and headed out toward Mazomanie to catch it. It was a short one, with ex-Milwaukee Road SD40-2 WSOR 4009 (and its nice echoing K5LA horn) long-hood forward. I chased it for a little bit including runbys at the Wisconsin River bridge east of Spring Green, and at the Wood Street railroad crossing in Spring Green which at the time still had "Stop on Red Signal" signs beneath the lights. These are required by law in the state of Michigan, but quite rare elsewhere.
