This classic race takes place each year. This race took place in June 1995 with F27 Trimaran winning the race in 3 days 5 hours and one minute.
The yacht was called 'Trivial Pursuit' with Don Sutherland as captain and vessel owner. The remainder of the team were predominantly from Nottinghamshire Police Sports Club. There were five crew, three sailors and two runners. Also a team of five land supporters.
The runners were myself, Steve Broadbent and Pete Gilbert. I actually stood in as a late replacement as Eddie Nicholson dropped out with injury. I am a member of Lancashire Police Sports Club and by chance was asked to replace their injured runner just a few days before the race started.
The race was won by just six minutes - the closest margin in its history at the time - ahead of the catamaran crew, Team Jeanette.
This was probably one of my best personal achievements as I had never sailed previously and involved 75 miles of gruelling fell running, 379 miles of sailing and 11,000 feet of mountain ascent in mixed weather conditions. A tremendous event I will never forget.
Thanks to all the Nottinghamshire Police team for having me on board!
