The Southern California Philharmonic proudly presents violinist James Birch, performing Henri Vieuxtemps' Violin Concerto No. 5.
Mr. Birch is a Kohl Scholar at the Colburn Music Academy, studying under Robert Lipsett. James made his orchestral solo debut at age twelve, performing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 with the Reddam Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also played solos with Los Angeles Virtuosi Orchestra, MUSE/IQUE, and San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra. He has given recitals at St. Mary’s Perivale UK, and Salon De Virtuosi (NY). He has received scholarships and awards including Aspen Music Festival’s New Horizons Fellowship, Arkady Fomin Scholarship Opportunity Award, full scholarships for the Sounding Point Academy, Music Works Chamber Summer Camp, and the Perlman Music Program. He has won competitions including the 2020 London Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition, 2022 ISA Young Musician of the Year, the New Talent Award at the 2021 British International Youth Music Competition & Festival, and the Hattori Foundation Junior Award Winner for 2022.
This performance was in the City of Tustin, California, 1 June, 2024. Branden Muresan conducted and is the Southern California Philharmonic's Music Director.
