a Treasure Trove of Life｜Pohnpei, Micronesia

ミクロネシアのポンペイ島の動画です。
ヤップ、チューク、ポンペイ、コスラエで構成されたミクロネシア連邦は赤道のすぐ北側に位置し、美しい環礁に囲まれた島々は豊かな熱帯雨林の恩恵を受けて広大なマングローブが広がり、その栄養が海へと行き渡り、多くの生き物が生息しています。
2025年3月に取材に行ってきたポンペイ島の様子を1本の動画にしました。
島の奥は熱帯雨林が広がる大自然！そこからダイナミックな滝を降りて川を下っていけば島一面を覆うマングローブ林が広がり、島の栄養分がラグーンへと染み込んでいって潮の干満とともに外洋へと出て行きます。
島のメインのダイビングスタイルはチャネルダイビング。
ラグーンから外洋へのアクセスはリーフとリーフの間の水路から栄養分豊富の海水が出入りする。
そこに多くの魚が集まり、捕食者が獲物を求めて回遊する。
島の北東にはナンヨウマンタのクリーニングステーションがあり、決まった時間帯にマンタたちが一斉に集めってクリーニングをしてもらう。
ダイバーはほとんどいなく、手付かずの大自然が広がるポンペイ島の海をお楽しみください！

This is a video of Pohnpei Island in Micronesia.

The Federated States of Micronesia, composed of Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae, is located just north of the equator. Surrounded by beautiful atolls, the islands are blessed with lush tropical rainforests that give rise to vast mangrove forests. The nutrients from these mangroves flow into the sea, supporting an abundance of life.

We created this single video to share our visit to Pohnpei Island in March 2025.

The island's interior is a vast, natural wilderness of tropical rainforests! Following dynamic waterfalls down the rivers leads you to expansive mangrove forests that cover the island. Nutrients from the island seep into the lagoon and are carried out to the open ocean with the ebb and flow of the tides.

The main diving style on the island is channel diving. The passages between the reefs allow nutrient-rich water to flow in and out between the lagoon and the open ocean. Many fish gather here, and predators cruise by in search of prey.

In the northeast of the island, there is a cleaning station for reef manta rays, where at certain times of the day, the mantas gather all at once to be cleaned.

With very few other divers, the vast nature of Pohnpei's sea remains untouched. Please enjoy the ocean of Pohnpei Island!
