"I Won't Leave Even If They Destroy the Building on My Head"

In this episode of Witness Talk by Witness Eye, recorded on September 9th, 2025, we spoke with Yahya Barzaq, a photojournalist and father from Gaza who specialized in newborn photography. Yesterday, Yahya was killed. This interview has become his final testimony.

Yahya spoke to us about the 18 children he had photographed who were martyred in this war.
He described fleeing his home as tanks entered his street, watching his seven-year-old son walk in front of military vehicles with his hands raised, and the impossible choice between staying under bombardment or displacing to overcrowded camps with no shelter. Just weeks ago, new evacuation orders were issued for all of Gaza City. Yahya told us then: "Death is more merciful than the life of displacement."
