Hamburg Walk Following a Random Tourist Map Part 1

Last year, on a visit to Hamburg, we decided to explore the city using nothing more than a tourist map — and this walk is where it led.
This video follows Tour 2 from a simple printed city map, taking in Hamburg’s waterways, bridges, historic quarters, and modern HafenCity districts. Filmed on a quiet Sunday morning, it’s an unhurried walk through the city — observed rather than explained — starting at the Elbphilharmonie and looping back again.
This is Part 1 of a two-part Hamburg walking series, filmed on separate visits:
Part 1 was filmed in May 2025, during a short fly-cruise trip to Hamburg
Part 2 was filmed in January 2026, on a later winter visit, and follows Tour 1 from the same map, starting at the Rathaus
The map used here was provided by the hotel, and we later noticed the same walking map being handed out more widely around the city — including at the cruise terminals — making it a surprisingly useful way to get your bearings and simply start walking.
If you enjoy slower, observational travel — city walks, atmosphere, and letting places reveal themselves — you may enjoy what’s here.
Thanks for coming along.
