Peter’s actions in Antioch revealed a dangerous gap between belief and behavior. Out of fear and a desire for approval, he withdrew from Gentile believers—living out of step with the gospel he proclaimed. Paul’s courageous confrontation in Galatians 2 exposed that Peter’s hypocrisy was leading others astray. Like Peter, we too can seek justification in the opinions of others rather than in Christ alone. The remedy is not greater effort but a clearer gaze—fixing our eyes on Jesus, who has already declared us accepted, loved, and approved. Only then will our lives move in harmony with the gospel.
