Mont Blanc: An Epic Cinematic Long Range Flight.

Mont Blanc summit is nearly 9km away from where we stood and about 4km into the troposphere. Behind kilometers of glacier mounds, far in the distance we could see the steam of the summit snow melting against the southern sun. In this moment we knew; everything had to be perfect for us to cover half the distance. At the summit the temperature was about -30°C with wind bursts reaching 80kph, maximum concentration by the pilot was required. At such height the air is so thin that failure to brake or turn in time will take the drone dozens of meters astray, maybe to a place where none return. It is against this backdrop that we put the drone in the air to start the voyage.

Le sommet du Mont Blanc se trouve à près de 9 km de l'endroit où nous nous trouvions et à environ 4 km dans la troposphère. Derrière des kilomètres de glaciers, on peut voir au loin la vapeur de la neige du sommet fondre sous le soleil du sud. À ce moment-là, nous savions que tout devait être parfait pour que nous puissions parcourir la moitié de la distance. Au sommet, la température était d'environ -30°C et les rafales de vent atteignaient 80 km/h. Le pilote devait faire un effort de concentration maximal. À une telle hauteur, l'air est tellement raréfié qu'un freinage ou un demi-tour raté à temps risque d'égarer le drone sur des dizaines de mètres, voire à un endroit où il n'y a pas de retour. C'est dans ce contexte que nous avons mis le drone en l'air pour commencer le voyage.
