Currently the only preserved Mercedes O405N that is operational in the UK, here’s preserved 1707 which was the last of 193 new in the West Midlands. It was part of a batch of 59 new to Hockley in 1999, numbered 1649-1707. This one in particular later passed to West Bromwich in 2002, then Pensnett in 2010, before withdrawal in summer 2015.
Other survivors are 1546, 1589 and 1689 which I believe are slowly undergoing restoration, whilst 1643 is a Non-PSV in a school, and 1687 which hangs on as National Express’ Health Buzz, though is due replacement when it’s replacement (E200MMC 2246) is ready.
Sadly the loud air release sound is quite off putting whilst on board this bus, though otherwise it’s a nice trip down memory lane. Note that footage from 9:30 is filmed from the front half of the saloon, to better capture the ZF Ecomat music. Included within this is gear hold at 11:30 over a small incline.
This bus was working the Aldridge Transport Museum to Walsall Town Centre Shuttle
