Come walk with me as we open valves and get the 3 phase 38Kw Pump into action in order to irrigate a few hectares of maize (mielie)
The pump is situated at the Riviersonderend River. The Maiza is divided into two blocks with each having a filter station.
On the walk we open one of the valves in order to bleed the system. The pump is then started and pressure is taken off the irrigation pipes by means of a large valve at the exit line. Once the pressure in the pipes have stabilized, the valve is fully opened.
The rest of the valves are opened and the filters are backwashed. Although there is a filter in the river incorporated in the non return valve, finer filters are required for the drip lines.
