Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Tour: Day 4 | Yelapa and Majahuitas Day Trip, Malecon Boardwalk Nightlife

Before our trip, we had been checking out ideas for things to do in Puerto Vallarta or Puerto Vallarta day trips or best excursions in Puerto Vallarta - and consistently one idea popped in all the searches. Yelapa and Mahjahuitas Day trip! Anyone visiting Puerto Vallarta has always highly recommended checking out these two coves in Banderas Bay - sandy beaches, pristine blue water, snorkelling and all other fun activities to do in these two places.

You can only access these two coves by boat - so your choice is to either hire a Panga or Water Taxi from Puerto Vallarta on your own or do a guided tour with one of the reputable tour agencies. Mind you - the guided tours will cost a lot more than the DIY route however, upon reading a lot of reviews and research we ended up booking a tour with Vallarta Adventures.

The total tour package includes a boat ride to Yelapa and Majahuitas, unlimited drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), breakfast and lunch, snorkelling, a guided tour to the Yelapa Waterfall and through the town of Yelapa and if you are lucky - whale watching in Puerto Vallarta! Not to mention, the ride back to Puerto Vallarta turns into a mini party itself with the music, drinks and occasional dance performance by the crews.

We started off from the hotel early morning so that we could reach Puerto Magico - the cruise terminal just in time to get picked up by the Vallarta Adventures boat. They also pick you up from Nuevo Vallarta if you are staying nearby. Upon boarding, we started our journey through Banderas Bay and crossed the Malecon area towards the arches of Misomaloya.

We were super lucky as we spotted a couple of whales and flying fishes near the arches of Misomaloya. As we were near the Majahuitas beach, the crew started giving out snorkelling gear. We were then guided to the water with a couple of crews to check out the beautiful underwater scenery - the waves were pretty rough near the beach but the crew kept constantly checking in and there was a small boat waiting nearby to pick up anyone tired or did not want to swim back the whole way to the beach. After the snorkelling session, you can definitely chill on the beach for a while. The Majahuitas
beach is actually one of the best beaches in Puerto Vallarta. The water is very clean, the beach is sandy and you have beach chairs to rest for a while.

The boat then took us to another top attraction in Puerto Vallarta - Yelapa. From the Yelapa jetty, the crew took us through the town on a small hike to reach the Yelapa waterfall. The waterfall is very refreshing and taking a dip is highly recommended.

Upon returning to Puerto Vallarta, we took a stroll through the beautiful Malecon boardwalk to see the nightlife in Puerto Vallarta. Sadly, it is our last night in Puerto Vallarta. We had an amazing time in PV and cannot wait to come back again.

Generally, most people search for all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta but we wanted to stay in a hotel as we felt we would be roaming around the city more and eating street foods than staying all day in the resort. We were also looking at the best beaches in Puerto Vallarta and they were quite dispersed so it made sense for us to stay in a happening area with good public transport and walking friendly zone - we chose Centro, which is also super close to Zona Romantica or the romantic zone. The ocean was right across the hotel we chose so it was a big plus.

We felt really safe in Puerto Vallarta as we wandered around the streets at night and the locals were super friendly and helpful. It is definitely a great vacation place as you have pretty much everything for all demographics - families, couples, and solo travellers.

Living in Puerto Vallarta seems like a great option as we met a lot of seniors, and expats who have moved to Puerto Vallarta from the US and Canada. Well, beautiful weather, friendly locals, fresh food, amazing nature - kind of making us contemplate a move to Puerto Vallarta.
