Warren G (born Warren Griffin III on November 10, 1970) is an American rapper, producer, and key figure in the development of West Coast hip-hop and G-funk, a smooth, melodic subgenre that blends funk samples with laid-back rap flows. He emerged from Long Beach, California, and is the stepbrother of legendary rapper and producer Dr. Dre.
Warren G rose to prominence in 1994 with his iconic debut single “Regulate” (featuring Nate Dogg), a storytelling classic that became a global hit and defined the G-funk sound. The track was featured on both the Above the Rim soundtrack and his debut album Regulate... G Funk Era, which went triple platinum.
Known for his laid-back delivery and soulful production, Warren G helped shape the sound of '90s hip-hop. In addition to his solo work, he has collaborated with artists like Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, and Ice Cube, and continues to perform and produce today.
Warren G remains a respected figure in hip-hop for his role in bringing G-funk to the mainstream and for his contributions to West Coast rap history.
