Actress Annalynne McCord is as nervous as she's ever been.
The star of shows like '90210' and 'Nip Tuck,' will deliver a speech at the United Nations on Friday to help draw attention to sexual violence against women. It's a cause that holds a profound meaning to her.
"I am speaking to kick off the (International Women's Day March for Gender Equality and Womens Rights.) I am a survivor of sexual assault," said McCord.
For the past six years, the Georgia native has been working with anti-human trafficking organizations. Her involvement lead her to speak out out about her assault.
"The biggest thing I want people to know is that I am OK. I was raped one night, but I am not tainted and I'm not damaged. I like having sex with my consensual partner when it's beautiful and it's a choice. I really want to have a conversation about this issue," said McCord.
Getting the message out about all sexual violence committed against women is crucial in order to end it, adds McCord.
"I really want to talk about how we need to enlist men... to use their voices to help us," said McCord.
Some of the statistics are staggering: approximately 250,000 victims of sexual slavery are within the United States. The average age of getting into prostitution in the United States is 12 years old.
Part of the awareness campaign is through the use of social media.
"Hashtag Yes All Real Men," said McCord.
