American news program Democracy Now! regularly covers documentaries that feature voices that are missing from other outlets. While mainstream broadcast journalism tends to favour the points of view of those in power, the team at Democracy Now! strives to highlight voices from grassroots organizations and provide historical context in its coverage of colonialism, patriarchy, racism, war, and labour. Nermeen Shaikh
Nermeen Shaikh is a co-host and producer at Democracy Now! She is the author of The Present as History: Critical Perspectives on Global Power published by Columbia University Press. She has an M.Phil. in politics from Cambridge University and presented a TEDx talk in Budapest in 2013.
