1-The Betrothal or THE GUO DA LI (过大礼) CEREMONY
2-THE GIFTING OF SI DIAN JIN (四点金)
3-THE CHINESE TEA CEREMONY (敬茶)
4-THE WEDDING BANQUET (喜酒)

The betrothal ceremony is the official wedding proposal, also Known as the Guo Da Li, the groom will present betrothal gifts (gold jewelry, dragon and phoenix wax candles, tea leaves and sesame seeds, wine or brandy, etc.) symbolizing prosperity and good fortune as a formal proposal to the bride’s parents. They, in turn, will return half of the gifts as an acceptance of the proposal and show that they wish to have a good relationship with the groom’s family.

Chinese weddings are rife with ancient traditions and rituals that bless the newlyweds and their marriage with happiness, fertility, prosperity and longevity. As most of these traditions are passed down through the generations by word-of-mouth, modern brides may find it difficult to find sufficient information on the meanings behind these traditions and how to prepare for it.
