In August, animal rights activists took to the streets of San Francisco to call on Susan Atherton, the Chair of the Board of The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), to provide the 77 chimpanzees in their care at Project Chimps with daily access to the outdoors. Now, the chimpanzees are held in concrete enclosures with metal bars for all but a few hours every three days.
