Some of these birds shouldn’t still be here.
Not with numbers this low. Not with habitats collapsing this fast.

Hidden in forests, islands, and shrinking patches of wilderness are birds so rare that most people will never see them—even on camera. Fewer than 100 remain. Some are down to dozens. A few are so fragile that a single storm, disease, or mistake could end the entire species.

What makes this unsettling isn’t just the math. It’s how normal extinction has started to feel. These birds didn’t vanish in some ancient era—they’re disappearing right now, quietly, while the world scrolls past. Some survived ice ages, predators, and centuries of change… only to reach the edge in our lifetime.

There are moments in nature where evolution feels unstoppable. This is the opposite. Every sighting feels accidental. Every call sounds like it might be the last. And once a species drops below a certain number, survival stops being about strength—and starts being about luck.
