Part 2 of the Gathering of Victorian Locomotives, this week we get the Eureka and Glenbrook ready to pull trains across the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad.
Five locomotives Victorian locomotives were on hand in August of 2021 for the "gathering". The two oldest were both from 1875. The Glenbrook was brought in from Carson City Nevada at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. It took decades to restore the Glenbrook. It originally ran on several logging railroads at Lake Tahoe. For years it stood on display at the old Carson City Mint building but was sent to the Nevada State Railroad Museum a few miles down the road from the Mint. It was completed in 2017.
AND we have Dan Markoff's locomotive Eureka and Palisades #4, the Eureka. Dan restored the locomotive in his backyard in Las Vegas over 20 years ago. It too dates from 1875.
The Glenbrook and the Eureka were "double-headed" to pull several restored passenger cars that had been restored by the Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad.
Next week we ride behind the two locomotives and follow them all the way to Chama.
