How to extend the life of your 3M RESPIRATOR mask FILTERS!

I use this respirator setup when I make surfboards, which is a very dusty environment combined with lots of chemical vapors/fumes. I wanted to share with you how I get the most life out of my vapor respirator filters by using the 3M 502 adapter. The 3M 60921 NIOSH filters are meant for fumes, meaning they can filter the chemical vapors experienced in making surfboards (vapors/fumes are smaller than particulates/dust like sanding dust). If you just have one respirator with filters meant for vapors, and you use it in a dusty environment, the larger particles of dust will clog your filters probably faster than the vapor filter capacity is worn out. By using the 502 adapter, you can attach a sanding particulate filter to the outside of your vapor filter, which will catch the bigger particles before they get a chance to clog up your vapor filter. I still suggest you change out your vapor filters often, but at least it won't get clogged with sanding dust after just one day. Then you can change out the sanding filter if it's all dusty, but not the vapor filter, until it's worn out
