This was my second time hiking the South Kaibab Trail… but I was seeing it for the very first time My first hike on this trail was a part of my R2R2R and I hiked this section in the darkness of the new moon. The sheer magnitude of the Grand Canyon is something you can never truly prepare for—no matter how many times you've visited. With every step down the switchbacks, I was immersed in a world of layered rock, wildflowers, solitude, and silence. It was humbling, breathtaking, and unforgettable.
Early into the day, my camera took a fall (classic canyon chaos), and I wasn’t able to access my memory card for weeks. That’s why this video is coming out much later than it was filmed—but I’m so grateful I was able to recover the footage and finally share this journey with you.
Along the way, I had a close encounter with a train of mules (you'll want to see this up close!), enjoyed a much-needed snack at Phantom Ranch, and even took a chilly but so worth it cold plunge in the Colorado River. The trail was unusually quiet that day—I only passed a few hikers the entire way, which added to the spiritual stillness of the canyon.
The wildflowers were in bloom, painting the trail with pops of color, and every switchback was a reminder of both the challenge and beauty of this place. I was definitely nervous starting this hike. The Grand Canyon demands respect. It’s raw, powerful, and doesn’t cut corners when it comes to safety. I came prepared, cautious, and full of reverence—and I hope that comes through in this video.
Thanks for coming along on this journey through one of Earth’s most incredible landscapes. If you enjoy this kind of storytelling and adventure, be sure to like, subscribe, and drop a comment below letting me know your favorite part of the hike. I’d love to hear what stood out to you.
✨If you love watching these videos and want to get back out on trail to create these kinds of experiences for yourself—but you're not sure where to start—you’re definitely not alone. Maybe you’ve been dealing with an injury, or maybe you’re just feeling out of shape and overwhelmed about how to build a routine again. That’s exactly why I created the Trail Mastery program.
