Château L’Eglise Clinet is one of the oldest wineries in the famous Bordeaux wine-growing region, because the origins of the estate go back a long way. According to historical records, the Château L’Eglise Clinet was built in the early 18th century, when an ancestor of Denis Durantou purchased a 4.5-hectare vineyard to produce fine wines. The estate remained family owned for years to come, until Denis Durantou, a successful entrepreneur and winemaker, continued the winery with great success.
Denis Durantou is a passionate winemaker who once studied oenology in Bordeaux. His dreams and plans to run his own winery were to be realized in 1983. After extensive renovation of the wine cellar and renewed planting of the vineyards, the winery experienced an unprecedented economic boom. Denis Durantou invested a lot of money to equip the property with the most modern stainless steel tanks and barriques so that the pressed red wines could be expanded and stored. The vineyards of the Château L’Eglise Clinet are composed mainly of the two grape varieties Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with one percent of the winery is planted with the red grape variety Malbec. Among the flagship products of the manufacturer is the 2005 vintage, which was awarded by Robert Parker with fabulous 100 points. The consistent quality of the red wines is due to the soils of the Pomerol wine region, which extends on the right bank of the Dordogne. Here, sand and gravel cover a lush layer of clay, which is enriched with iron-containing deposits. This composition ensures that the surface of the soil is almost dry, while the clay layers can optimally store the water.
