Incredible ancient rock carving at Dazu | just outside of Chongqing | UNESCO heritage sight in China

China Diaries episode #12: DAZU, Chongqing

Welcome to the stunning world of the Dazu rock carvings. With over 10,000 carvings on a few different mountain peaks, Dazu was definitely one of the highlights on our most recent China trip. Carving began in 650 during the Tang Dynasty and continued through to the Qing. These carvings are incredibly well preserved and teach us so much about the development of Chinese religions across dynasties.

To get here just hop on a bus or tour from Chongqing. It takes about an hour and a half to two hours. Definitely worth taking a day trip to check this place out.
