Hey, have you heard about the latest incident in Myanmar? You may have seen news about the 7.7 magnitude Earthquake in Myanmar. But the latest incident was Chinese Redcross Convoy being attacked by the junta forces. Can you believe it? I wish this was an April fool joke. But this really happened.
The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) reported that the military council forces fired on a nine vehicle convoy carrying aid from the Chinese Red Cross Society. This happened around 9:21 pm on April 1 in Ummati village, Naungcho township. The convoy was heading to Mandalay from China’s Yunan Province. They had informed the military council beforehand, but they were still attacked.
After the attack, the convoy retreated to Naungcho town and is now under protection of TNLA forces. General Zaw Min Htun, the military council’s press officer, hasn't responded to inquiries about the incident yet. Of course, either he was sleeping or he was finding the lamest excuse to come up with to the media.
Interestingly, the TNLA, along with the Arakan Army (AA) and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), declared a one-month ceasefire from April 1 to 30 to help with relief efforts after the earthquake. Despite this, the military council announced they would continue attacking these groups, even during a donation ceremony for earthquake-stricken areas in Nay Pyi Taw on April 1. It's a pretty tense situation over there.
I wonder how China would respond to this situation. Given the fact that Chinese is the biggest ally to Myanmar junta. And China basically has been pushing both TNLA and MNDAA forces for a complete ceasefire and negotiation with the military junta, to which both discussion failed. Now that the junta attacked the Chinese Red Cross Convoy vehicles, I want to know how China would respond.
Again, that’s why I cannot stress enough not to trust the military junta and not to donate to Myanmar Earthquake victims through the junta.
I am linking Citizen of Burma Award organization’s website link which you can go and donate. No matter how small, every cent counts. Your contribution will be a great relief for much needed earthquake victims in Myanmar.
