Okay, sorry for the delays, but as you can see, I have more concert footage up of late, so I had to work on that first. Here's part 2 of our last trip to the Garland Public Shooting Range (albeit filmed back in November of 2013), testing out my uncles newly acquired Mosin Nagant M91/30, a Tula model, with the round receiver. This one came from Southern Ohio Gun, paying the extra $10 hand select fee to get a nicer one.
In this video (and the prior vid), I give some very useful tips on how to adjust the front sight of your Mosin Nagant so that you can overcome a very common problem with these rifles. These surplus rifle typically shoot about 5 to 10 inches high at ranges of 100 yards or less. The reason this is the case varies greatly, but it typically boils down to variations between modern vs. surplus manufactured ammo, and bullet weight. You wouldn't think it would make that much difference, but I usually find that a bone stock Mosin Nagant will easily shoot dead on with surplus ammo...but with Wolf or Brown Bear, it'll easily shoot too high.
The easiest trick I've learned to fix this is to slip a small piece of 12 gauge (solid copper) wire insulation over the tip of the front post. Usually about ¼ of an inch will suffice, then as you shoot to sight the rifle, you can use a pair of small snip-scissors to trim the plastic tip. It's not a perfect solution, because your front post will now be a smidge wider at the tip, but it's a very quick and easy solution to getting your rifle to shoot lower, especially if you are a perfectionist like me and can't stand having to manually adjust and aim lower.
Part 3 is coming up, and we will compare our results with my reproduction sniper-scoped Mosin Nagant M91/30, with some reloads too. Enjoy!
