Just a quick overview of how things work at the data link layer (layer 2) in Windows Server when using NIC teaming in switch independent mode.
I also realized later on that the secondary NIC will also accept traffic destined for the "Team's" MAC address, however it will not respond to arp requests. So if you have a layer 3 configuration using a routing protocol that is giving you ECMP, then you can create a static arp and mac address-table entry for inbound traffic. You would do this on the switch directly connected to secondary network adapter for that server.
