📘 Summary – The Fun They Had (Class 9 English)
"The Fun They Had" is a science fiction short story by Isaac Asimov, set in the future, in the year 2157, where education is fully digital and children learn at home with mechanical teachers (robots).

The story follows two children, Margie, a girl of 11, and Tommy, a boy of 13. One day, Tommy finds an old, printed book in his attic. This surprises both of them because in their time, books are completely digital, and they’ve never seen a printed one before.

As they read the book, they learn about how children used to go to school buildings, had human teachers, and studied together with other children. Margie is especially fascinated by this idea because she dislikes her robotic teacher and finds her lessons boring and difficult.

She begins to imagine how much fun children must have had back in those days — going to school together, making friends, and learning in a group. The story ends with Margie reflecting sadly on how different and possibly better the old education system seemed compared to her lonely, mechanical learning at home.
