Völuspá (old Norse: Vǫluspá) is an old Norse poetic prophecy and a part of the 'Poetic Edda' (a collection of old Norse poems), and one of the most famous writings in Norse mythology. It tells the story of the creation of the world, how it will end, and its rebirth. This version of the prophecy is from the 'Codex Regius' (Konungsbók, ca. 1270), which is regarded as the most remarkable of all old Icelandic manuscripts. Another version of it can be found in the 'Hauksbók' manuscript (Haukr Erlendsson, ca. 1310), and lots of quotes and re-phrases of it are also written in the so-called 'Prose Edda' or Snorra's Edda (Snorri Sturluson, ca. 1220).
The origin of the Völuspá itself is unknown, but some scholars who specialize in Norse mythology date it to the period of 800-1100 AD, while others pinpoint it to 900-1000 AD. I say it's older. A poetic prophecy of such importance and one of the peaks in the old Norse religion/tradition to be created in the middle of the Christianization of Scandinavia makes no sense to me. My guess is that it is from 600 AD. Even earlier. Was it then orally shared for a long time before finally being documented? It could be, but we have no idea when it was first documented. Those sources are long lost.
All credits to the Völva and Óðinn. And big thanks to 'Aim to Head' for allowing people to use their magnificent darksynth/cyberpunk/industrial music.

The moving lava eruption is real and was merged with the background images. It was a part of a live webcam recording that took place in Iceland during one of many volcanic eruptions close to Grindavík, Iceland in early February 2024.
