Seeing as Round 2 of the 2022 WRC season is upon us, we take a look back to the 1985 Swedish Rally as five years of domination of the World Rally Championship came to a dramatic end!
Flying Finn Ari Vatanen displayed every ounce of the forceful style for which he is loved by fans all over the globe as he gave the Peugeot team a deserved victory over the previously all-conquering Audi Quattro driven by the host country’s Stig Blomqvist. After two days of flat-out driving Vatanen and co-driver Terry Hayman were one minute 49 seconds ahead of Blomqvist to establish the Peugeot 205 as a main rally contender.
