Steam distillation is a process used in the case of easily flammable liquids. When we need to separate two components (of comparable boiling points) from a mixture, we use this process. For instance, when you have o, m, p-chlorotoluenes in a mixture, they can be separated by steam distillation. Differential extraction is also a method that has been covered in this video. It is used for the removal of a solute using mutually immiscible solvents. The solvents are decanted and the pure solute can further be extracted by evaporating the solvent. A good example of this is extraction of benzoic acid from water by using benzene.
